Happy President’s day! In today’s “Monday Meet,” we are excited to introduce you to our newest intern, Lizzy Jarvis!
Lizzy is a junior at the University of Texas at Austin where she studies Art and Art Education with a focus in Special Education. She will be graduating in 2013. Lizzy says that her initial motivation for wanting to join the Nisolo team was the chance to be involved with a socially responsible company that provides opportunities to impoverished communities. She adds that, “as an education major, I was drawn to the fact that Nisolo donates 10% of the proceeds to programs that support quality education. Not only are they empowering the community, but the youth as well!"
Lizzy is also actively involved in many other organizations including Arc of Austin, a non-profit organization that provides art programs to adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She has been participating with the ARC since high school. With an obvious passion for art, she feels privileged to work with artists who are creative and passionate about the art they produce. The best part about it, she says, is seeing everything come to fruition when she gets to attend the participant’s art shows!
Like many of us here at Nisolo, Lizzy also has a bit of the travel bug. Recently, she spent a month traveling throughout Thailand. For two weeks she worked at the Gibbon Rehabilitation Program in Phuket, Thailand. While there, she helped assemble cages, formed trails in the forest, and tracked the rehabilitated gibbons in the wild. She also had the chance to travel around Northern Thailand, where she was able to kayak around islands, hike private trails, take tours of watts (temples) and even bathe and feed elephants! Nisolo trip to Thailand, anyone…?
We are excited to have Lizzy on board as an intern with the Nisolo team! We also want to let everyone know that we are currently accepting applications for our Spring/Summer internships. For more information please visit the following link: http://www.nisoloshoes.com/about-us/jobs/
Lastly, thank you for “Meeting Lizzy this Monday.”
